Porsche is in a Green Deal with Siemens Energy !

12/02/2020 Porsche has signed a deal with Siemens Energy to produce synthetic methanol using Chilean wind power. Siemens will convert that methanol to gasoline using a refining process licensed from ExxonMobil. Porsche will phase in this “eFuel” in its race cars and track-driving experience cars at the Porsche Experience Centers as Siemens ramps up production of the wind-sourced fuel. In the pilot phase, around 130,000 litres of eFuels will be produced as early as 2022. In two further phases, capacity will then be increased to about 55 million litres of eFuels a year by 2024, and around 550 million litres of eFuels by 2026. Porsche will be the primary customer for the green fuel. Other partners in the project are the energy firm AME and the petroleum company ENAP, from Chile, and Italian energy company Enel. “We believe in our three-fold drive strategy,” explained Michael Steiner, Porsche AG board member for research and development. “We want to have classic combustion engines for as long as possible. Either high-revving naturally aspirated engines or turbo engines. We want to have plug-in hybrids that drive using mixed operation; electrically or with a combustion engine. And we want to have very emotive, very sporty electric vehicles, as shown with the Taycan. We want to offer all three.”
