Towards Digitalisation of Payments: The Swiss National Bank and the Bank of France will trial Europe's first cross-border central bank digital currency payments.
Switzerland's UBS (UBSG.S), Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) and France's Natixis (CNAT.PA) are involved in the project, along with Swiss bourse operator SIX Digital Exchange, fintech firm R3 and the Innovation Hub at the Bank for International Settlements.
“The Eurosystem is engaging in innovation and adapting its actions to the strong trend towards the digitalisation of payments,” said Sylvia Goulard, Deputy Governor of the Banque de France.
It comes less than a month after Sweden’s central bank Riksbank announced a collaboration with lender Handelsbanken to test the digital currency e-krona in handling payments in an everyday setting.
