Testimony from our friend and colleague Jean Huan

It has been a few days since we have all been forced to stay at home for an indefinite period. Naturally, many people wonder how to overcome this challenge. We asked Jean Huan, who is currently in China, the following questions about the quarantine:

1 What was the evolution of the situation related to the Covid-19 epidemic in China?
From January 22nd 2020, the government began to shut down Wuhan, the city of origin of the virus. Following this announcement, all of China was quarantined. Suddenly, there was nobody in the street, nor even the cars. The first month was quite worrying, as the situation got worse day by day. Today the number of new cases is zero, which is very good news for us.

2 How did you experience the quarantine?
Personally, I stayed at home for a month. The control in China was very strict. In my city we were allowed to go out once in 5 days to do the shopping.

3 How long did it last?
About a month, except for the Hubei region, because the situation is more serious there. And it will take at least another month.

4 How can a person with symptoms or someone who is likely to be infected do the analysis?
We can call the emergency and then we are taken to the hospital for the test.

5 What do you do to keep yourself busy during quarantine?
I cook and I read. Thanks to the Chinese New Year, in my family we bought a lot of food, so we don't have to go out.

6 How did the people of China react psychologically to the social distancing measures?
The people were very cooperative. The anxiety and panic comes from fear of the virus and not from government measures.

7 What would you have advised people in France and Monaco, who found themselves in quarantine?
Buy food and stay at home. At the beginning, of course, you will want to go out, but you will use to it quickly.

8 Are there things you would have done differently if you were warned in advance of the severity of the epidemic?
Yes. I would have bought more masks. It's useful to protect yourself. Now there is a shortage of protection masks all over the world.

9 What is the current atmosphere in China?
The Chinese people have started to work and leave their houses. After the rain, there's sun.
